Even though it is not part of the idea of free software, I can understand why people often focus in the benefit of not paying anything. The right to understand, share or modify the software is simply not relevant for most people in their daily life. The right to use it for every purpose might be more relevant. Maybe we should focus on other aspects when communicating the benefits of free/libre software to the average user.
